This year could be the last hurrah of the Nexus tablet computer, worse, Google might not release a new Nexus tablet this year (if the Project Tango development hits final build). Last week, the search engine giant unveiled its plan to re-create its tablet computer program in partnership with microchips maker Nvidia. Dubbed as 'Project Tango,' the new system could be the replacement of the Nexus tablet PC program which involves Android PC manufacturers.
Project Tango serves as a new program that is currently inviting developers who want to develop the 'next-gen' apps that will work on a tablet computer with 3D capabilities.
The first 'Google Tango'tablet computer, possibly co-created with a PC maker, and offers Nvidia's Tegra K1 mobile processor. It will also run Android mobile operating system. Some analysts are saying that the Project Tango is 'still new' and will not be hitting the retail stores soon. If true, then it is possible that this year, Google will still release a Nexus tablet, before replacing it next year - or maybe next, next year. Who knows? Right now, the faith of the Nexus tablet computer program depends on sales and innovation. Sales, because Google will not kill a product if it is selling well, and innovation, if there's a better product with better and more innovative features that will attract more buyers.
Project Tango arrived right after the rumor mill exploded with reports about the discontinuation of the Nexus Phone program - to be replaced by Google Silver Phone (or phones) project which will reportedly include more than 2 Android phone manufacturers.
According to rumors from credible tech sites, the Silver Phone project will take Android 'to a more premium' level that will challenge Apple's lucrative smartphones product lineup. Google will reportedly spend more money developing phones with its partner manufacturers, and will spend additional funds for marketing.
Google needs a good and very competitive product lineup, specifically a phone and a tablet computer - to generate more revenue from the Google Play Store which now offers more content like movies, TV shows, books and more, apart from popular mobile applications. Google is also transforming itself from a search engine into a retail store, and currently operates its own online shopping store which rivals Amazon.com. With a popular phone and tablet computer, Google can protect a certain portion of its market from rival products including phones and tablets from the Apple camp.
If Google will replace the Nexus phone program this year, and Project Tango is still not ready for retailing - then it is possible that later this year, Google will unveil the Android Silver phone lineup - and a Nexus tablet.
Google currently sells two tablets - the Nexus 7 with 7-inch display, and the Nexus 10, a large tablet with 10-inch display with 300 pixels per inch - beating the iPad Air's Retina display technology.
