BBC iPlayer gets more TV tablet hits than computers for first time

Tablets have made more requests for TV shows on BBC iPlayer than computers for the first time.

The broadcaster's latest stats for April viewing reveal that tablets contributed the highest number of hits at 30%, while computers made up 28%.

Computers still took the highest share for both TV and radio requests at 31%, although tablets and mobile combined achieved another all-time high, contributing 45% of traffic.

The numbers mirror the growing trend among the industry as a whole, as users move away from their computers to portable devices.

After a record-breaking March, the number of hits on iPlayer content was down overall, attracting 268 million on all platforms in April, compared to 320 million the previous month.

However, the result represents a year-on-year increase of 4%, beating the 257 million hit count set last April.
