ALMOST a third of families talk to each other on tablets or smartphones when they are in the same house.
People use gadgets to ask for help with homework and to say when dinner is ready, with 9% speaking on video rather than face to face.
Nearly 90% of homes own a laptop and have an average of 10 connectable gadgets.
Almost half of their use takes place in the living room.
The Microsoft Advertising study said: 'We found the use of multiple devices is bringing families together.'
